Drywall, y’all.

Well, we passed the energy inspection yesterday! Now it really is full speed ahead. Today I bought a few tools and started hanging drywall. I first went over to Chapel Hill in order to buy some shiplap, but the place was closed. That was very frustrating. I will probably return on Monday. The drywall was a pain, mostly because I’m so out of practice. It also went very slowly. Starting tomorrow I will spend a week down at the farm. Liz’s mother is coming into town to watch Luke, and I will be freed up. Should get a lot done.

Not glamorous, but necessary.

After Luke’s doctor’s appointment I went and purchased our wood stove. I think it will be a pretty nice one. Then I met my dad and we drove down to the farm. It was a muddy mess and was still raining, so we went to Home Depot in Spring Hill. I bought some driver bits, and inquired about siding, but it now looks like they can’t get it for me. We also went to the plumbing supply store and I asked about thermal expansion tanks for the condo. I ended up buying one. Back at the farm I brought in my new drywall panel lift and assembled it. Hopefully it will help make that task go a lot easier. We also used screws to better attach the subfloor to the joists. That should remove most squeaking and give a very solid foundation. It wasn’t much fun though. We left as daylight was starting to fade, but the evening was really lovely. Fog was all in the back field. I really am ready to be finished and living out there. It should be really nice.

Progress on a Saturday.

Well, the day didn’t start off so great. I went to the bank in Brentwood, but it isn’t open on Saturdays, so I had to go by the Franklin branch. The salesman wasn’t at the fireplace store, so I couldn’t get my stove ordered. But things improved once I got to the farm. I was able to quickly remove the flat front tractor tire with my new impact wrench and socket set. The equipment repair place sent me next door to the Co-op and they repaired the tire while I waited. Next I went to Big Box Liquidation and ordered the laminate flooring. Back at the farm I built a crude set of steps for the back door. The insulation guys came yesterday for their first phase, and we are getting inspected for that on Monday. So it does feel like we are moving in the right direction.

Hoping to start the final push.

There have been so many delays and frustrations out at the farm over the past few weeks. Progress has really slowed and it is a little overwhelming. We will work hard to get things going in the right direction though. I am really hoping that we get all of our rough-in inspections completed this week. Maybe we can even get insulated. Then it will be a very intense couple of months as we race to be finished by Thanksgiving. Liz still has a lot of decisions to make and I’m worried that will cause some bottlenecks.

This morning I ordered our interior doors down in Columbia. I also need to order some more siding and all of our flooring. There are lots of other things to buy as well. I will be feeling a lot better once we are insulated and I can really begin doing most of the remaining work myself.
