Long day of siding.

We got to the job site a couple of minutes after seven this morning. We left about 7:20 this evening. In between we put up a ton of siding, got poured on, and I made one quick trip to the cottage for a gas can. It was a rewarding day but now I’m exhausted. My new tool harness was a huge help, as were the new ladders. We went to Piggly Wiggly on the way back to the cottage and ate more rice and beans after showering. I am already really sore and am dreading the morning.

Back on the Mountain, not quite back to work.

Luke was up early and ready to build this morning. We played with Legos until breakfast, then I loaded my car and headed on. I drove to Monteagle without stopping. In town I went to the lumberyard, bank, dump, and Piggly Wiggly. I also did a little computer work and tried to nap. I made beans in the slow cooker, as befits my desire to start eating healthy again. This evening I met with a plumber/electrician and he is going to get me a quote. I had the beans along with some rice for dinner, and they were delicious. My dad arrived a little later and we have been talking some. I have also been working on my budgets for the houses.

Trying to get settled.

Luke slept in a little this morning. Unfortunately it rained intermittently all day so no real outside time. He went with Liz to the grocery store first thing, then we built towers and he made a “burn pile” in our room. I was not feeling well and did a lot of sleeping. He had a good nap too. Mr. Jerry came by this afternoon with some jam, and we gave him a bottle of cherry wine. Not much else happened. I’ll drive to Monteagle in the morning.

Headed home.

I woke up early despite staying up very late last night. After packing I went to Meijer and Bill’s Shop and Save. It was a little difficult to find cherry wine, but easy to get snacks. I did get a special root beer to help me stay awake. Back at the farm Liz and Luke were sort of packed, and I loaded the car as items became available. We hit the road about nine. The drive was uneventful; Luke was happy to see lots of construction equipment in the work zones and he sang a lot. We picked up lunch at Panera in Carmel and ate it at a nearby dog park. Storms hit us in Kentucky but we made it through okay. We arrived home around seven. Luke and Lily were both happy to return. I am glad to be back too.

Another trip to the lake.

This morning was a little slow. John and I took down some shutters and painted them. After lunch we reinstalled them. Later this afternoon we all loaded up in two cars and drove to Lake Michigan. It was a lot of fun and Luke really enjoyed himself. From there we returned to Fremont and picked up pizza to take to the farm for dinner. Ryan and his family came over for a bit and we all ate peach pie. We ended the night out at the fire pit, or “burn pile” as Luke calls it. I hope that tonight we can go to bed at a reasonable time as we have a long drive ahead tomorrow.
