The heat has arrived.

I played with Luke a bit this morning and left home a little later than I would have liked, around 7:30. After stopping for gas I had an uneventful drive to the cottage, where I changed clothes and went to get no ethanol gas for the generator. My dad was waiting for me at the job site when I arrived. We first finished the siding on the front of the house, which was slow and difficult due to the height and numerous cutouts over the windows. Next we finished the far side. The heat and sunshine were pretty draining, and I had to run to CVS for some drinks in addition to the water I had on hand. We started just a little on the last of the back of the house, but I was pretty maxed out at that point, so we just put the trim pieces under the windows and called it a day. After showering we had dinner at the Mexican restaurant a few doors down. The food was mediocre and the service worse, as expected. Now I am just kind of a zombie on the couch. We should finish up the siding tomorrow morning.

More siding, more rain.

We got to the job site about seven again this morning and started off on the front porch – the most difficult and challenging element of the whole house. It was pretty high up and I did not enjoy being on the ladders. It took us about two hours and I was glad to be done. We also did more on one side of the house, and started up the back wall as well. That area was a muddy mess, but we still made good progress. I had to run out for nails, safety glasses, and water, otherwise we worked without stopping. It started sprinkling a little after two so we packed up and returned to the cottage. Glad we did because it really started pouring. I showered, took trash to the dump, then headed home. The drive was uneventful. Liz and Luke were outside when I arrived. I played Legos with Luke until dinner. We had pie for dessert and he was thrilled. He did better than usual at bed time.

Still raining, still misbehaving.

This morning was a bit of a mess. Liz was going to take Luke to the grocery store but he wasn’t behaving, so she left him at the house with me. He went nuts for a few minutes until I opened my office to organize it and let him play with my real tools. Then he had a lot of fun. After putting away groceries upon Liz’s return we went to Yanahli Park for a hike. She had read about a new trail online, but we couldn’t find it, so we just did the big loop. Luke enjoyed seeing lots of flowers and butterflies. It was humid out but not too hot. Back home Luke and I played with Legos while Liz prepared lunch. He ended up having a great nap after eating and I had a mediocre one. It was pouring rain this afternoon so we all just played inside more. We also ate incredible cinnamon rolls that Liz baked. Dinner and bath went well, but Luke really didn’t want to go to bed tonight. I had to go in with him until he was nearly asleep, which was about nine. Then I chatted with Liz for a while and didn’t get to leave the house until 9:30 to drive to Monteagle. Thankfully it didn’t rain on me, and due to my nap I wasn’t tired.

Active Saturday.

Luke woke up when it was still dark this morning and didn’t want to go back to bed. Liz made muffins while I built a Lego tower with him. We went to the farmers market once they opened and after taking our bounty home, took Luke to yoga. I walked around downtown a little while waiting for him to finish. After yoga was over we went to the playground with his friend Ellie and her mother, who were at yoga also. They kind of played independently of each other, but did seem to have a good time. We went home for lunch and Luke and I both attempted naps, without success. He went with Liz to get coffee at the Dotted Lime, and I took trash to the dump. We all went to Co-op and then Home Depot before returning home for dinner. I must mention that Luke drove up and down the driveway every time we left or arrived at the house today, and loved it. He did well at clean up and bath, but was a terror at bedtime.

Work, errands, rain, drive.

This morning I got to the lumberyard when they opened and clarified a few things on my bill. Next I went to the job site and really got everything consolidated and organized. That will hopefully make work more efficient next week. I also cut and painted trim for around the porches. My last task was to load up the excess roofing supplies and take them to the storage unit. Back at the cottage I did a bit of cleaning and laundry. I went to the Goat Market for a little bit before driving home via Lynchburg. It was good to see Liz and Luke, and we played with Legos until dinner time. I did the bed time routine and now Luke is kind of trying to sleep.
