Two months!
The little man hit another milestone today. I am incredibly grateful that he is still alive and healthy. He continues to grow and develop. And fuss. He has transitioned from newborn diapers to size one. He is also wearing some 0-3 sized clothes now. At Piggly Wiggly they have some baby clothes with their logo, but just size 12.
I woke up early this morning but didn’t have the energy to go out for sunrise. I went back to sleep and everybody stayed in bed until about 7:30. It was a pretty lazy morning just spent hanging around the cottage. At about eleven we went for a 2.25 mile walk on the goat trail. It was fairly warm and sunny although the shady canopy covering the trail helped keep things fairly comfortable. After we returned to the cottage and Liz and Luke got situated I drove down to Trenton, Georgia. I just took the interstate to be quick. There is a building supply place there with good deals on siding. I had been before and their inventory is a bit hit or miss, so I wanted to check on things before making the drive with my trailer. Fortunately they had the product I wanted and a sufficient amount. They were selling the pieces for $6.99 each, but I asked how much of a discount they would give for buying 200, and they said $5.99 each. So that was a nice treat. Less of a treat will be driving them back over Monteagle mountain to the farm. It might take two trips. I think I’ll drive down on Tuesday. I took the scenic route back to Monteagle and stopped for a late lunch in South Pittsburgh at a little burger joint I had been to before. I had a cheeseburger, fries, and a soft-serve ice cream cone.
We continued relaxing the rest of the afternoon. Unfortunately Luke didn’t want to nap. Around seven we returned to the Mountain Goat Trail and hiked another 3.25 miles. It was really pretty and tranquil out. The walk was a little much for Liz though. She got really worn out. We agreed that tomorrow we will try to take more, shorter walks. After a quick shower I again picked us up dinner at the Mountain Goat Market.
Everything is better on the mountain.
Hard to believe it’s June already. I left the condo around five this morning. First I dropped off a check for the framers and then went to buy another seven bundles of shingles so that the roofers can finish. It was raining quite a bit, but I did manage to take a few interior pictures.
Liz was supposed to come down and check out the house, but it was a hectic morning for her, so I headed back to the condo. I helped her load up the car and we headed straight to Monteagle. Fortunately Luke slept the whole way. As usual it was nice and pretty when we arrived up on the mountain. I went for supplies at Piggly Wiggly while Liz nursed. After everybody had lunch we went for a very nice walk on the Mountain Goat Trail. We actually drove down to Pearl’s and then walked towards campus, taking advantage of the shadiest portion of the trail. We only saw one other walker, which was rather surprising.
The afternoon involved just kind of hanging out. We drove to campus and checked on the goats, although I didn’t take any pictures. The babies sure have gotten big quickly. We walked around the center of campus for a little while. It wasn’t too hot, but was a bit humid. The light was lovely though.
I dropped Liz and Luke off at the cottage and then headed to the Mountain Goat Market to pick up dinner. Liz got a sandwich and I had a small cheese pizza. Luke got a bath since he peed all over himself while getting his temperature taken. He has been running a little warm these past few days, but not in the danger zone.
Doors, windows, and shingles.
I arrived at the farm earlier than ever this morning – about 5:45. My reward was a nice sunrise over the back field, and relatively cool temperatures for a couple of hours.
The roofers were the first ones to show up, and their rides did not disappoint.
The framers came and finished vaulting the ceilings and installing the doors and windows. I had to go back to Pulaski for three more doors. It took them nearly all day, which clearly caught them off guard. I think they were expecting a much shorter day. One of them left early so I was only able to get a picture of the other two.
So it is definitely looking like a house now. I didn’t get any inside pictures, but will tomorrow.
It really feels great to be at this point. There has been a lot of stress, but I’m relaxing a bit now. I will be even more relaxed once it passes Liz’s inspection tomorrow and the county’s next week.
Getting closer, despite the rain.
I wasn’t really expecting the framers to come today since it looked like rain this morning, but they actually arrived earlier than usual. Before they came I went by the roofing supply place and ordered everything I needed for the roof. The roofers are due to arrive tomorrow. Next I went to Lowe’s to buy the last two windows I needed. I wanted French doors as well, but they didn’t have the ones I was looking for. Once the framers got situated and the roofing materials were delivered I drove down to Pulaski to buy doors. I got two French doors and a 15 panel glass door. The guy told me that they were getting in a truck this afternoon with the other three doors I needed. I drove on to the Pulaski Home Depot for another two doors that I needed. The drive back to the farm was really pretty.
I took the framers out to lunch at Burger King as a little thank you. They seemed to enjoy it, but one of them went back for a second combo meal! The rest of the afternoon was pretty quiet. I did a bit of cleaning and organizing around the site. The burn piles are getting huge and I will need to burn soon. It started storming around five, so the framers and I left. I went back to Lowe’s, because I got the wrong windows this morning. I also bought a new tape measure and some LED light bulbs for the condo. Traffic was pretty bad once I got to Cool Springs. I think there may have been a wreck. Tomorrow will be a busy day.
This evening there was a rainbow visible from our balcony. Also a vivid sunset. Cell phone pictures do neither justice.
Rained out.
I arrived at the farm around 6:15 this morning. Thunderstorms and flash floods were in the forecast, but it was not raining. I cut some grass, cleaned up some lumber, and brought some crushed up concrete blocks into the garage for fill. Laudel, who runs the framing crew, arrived around 7:45. We chatted for about three hours. Around 9:30 he called his guys to see where they were. They told him that they had driven about halfway to Columbia, then turned around because of the rain. They promised to come finish up tomorrow. After Laudel and I finished talking I went to the roofing supply place in Columbia and ordered materials for the roof. The roofers are coming on Thursday. From there I went to the lumberyard and got tape for the windows. Unfortunately I didn’t take any pictures of the house today.
I got back to the condo pretty early – around 12:30. Luke was nursing. He was fairly fussy all afternoon and only took a little nap. We did tummy time with him just a few minutes ago.
Morning walk in the park.
I haven’t posted much about Luke recently, mainly because I haven’t been around too much. We have gotten in some quality time today though. A bit of that time occurred on the changing table. He had a couple of monster bowel movements this morning.
We took him on a walk at the AG center as well. Even by eight o’clock it was pretty warm and sweaty. It was very nice to be out though, and he seemed to enjoy it.
He spent a little time relaxing in the pack and play, but then got fussy.
Technical difficulties.
I’m dropping a bunch of new posts on here today. About a week’s worth or so. I had quite a backlog built up. My primary computer is my Chromebook and I left the charger for it in Monteagle a couple of weekends ago. My Windows laptop has a malfunctioning clock. One one hand that has been great, since it has allowed me to extend my trial of SketchUp pro well beyond the thirty day period. The problem is that Google’s apps raise a ruckus about the error, and so I am not able to access them. In this context I just need to access Photos. I have a WordPress app on my phone, but it is kind of a pain to use. So this afternoon I reset the clock on my laptop. It was nice to catch up on my posting (I already had the posts written, just needed to add pictures). I will deal with the loss of SketchUp pro. Fortunately I am finished with it in regards to the farm house. Hopefully we are going back to Monteagle this coming weekend and I can get my charger.
E duobus unum.
And two become one. I had tried to keep my “Life Blog” and my “Luke Blog” separate. I actually spent a lot of time and energy trying to do so. After much frustration I finally thought I has succeeded. I won’t get into the technicalities, but the problem was that even though the blogs were separate, the previous/next post listings at the bottom of each post showed posts from both blogs, regardless of which one you were looking at. There seemed to be a couple of solutions, but I failed when attempting to implement them. So I have given up and decided to merge the two. Actually I am about to try to do it. I need to remember what all I did to separate them in the first place.
Saturday cleaning.
The framers didn’t show again today. On Thursday they told me they weren’t coming today. Yesterday they said they were. Must have had quite the fiesta last night. Not sure if they will come Monday or not, as it’s Memorial Day. I spent a few hours cleaning up the job site. It was nice to take a load of trash to the dump. I maxed out one burn pile and started a second. Need to burn, but it has been pretty dry recently. Didn’t take any pictures. Will try to really document things on Monday. Meeting a roofer on Monday. Have already gotten two quotes but felt like they were both a bit high. We need to get serious about finding plumbing and electrical fixtures. I also need to start preparing the wood flooring and shiplap siding from the old house to use in the new one. Lots of work ahead.
