Another Luke and Daddy day.
After a miserable night of coughing, mostly spent on the sofa so as not to disturb Liz, it was nice to see Luke this morning. We read several books while it was still dark outside. After breakfast we went to Port Royal for a couple of hours, Luke was pretty active and was excited to see Ridley there. Next we went to Kroger to get a number of things. That was pretty unpleasant. We had lunch at home then tried for a long time to nap. At about 2:15 we got in the car and drove for an hour and a quarter or so, most of the time he slept. Back home we played until Liz got off work. They went outside together and I worked on setting up my new phone. We had dinner and cleaned up, and now Liz and Luke are doing bath time. I hope to leave for the Mountain before too long.

A productive, but still disappointing day.
First thing this morning I went to the lumberyard to pick up some boards. My focus was on the skirting for the front porches on both houses. I put in the supports and then the fence boards. It was hotter than expected and I didn’t drink enough water. There were also some distractions – Dillon and the property assessor both came by and chatted for a while. I also had to go get more gas for the generator. I was nearly done with the second house when my nail gun stopped working. I had wanted to also buy and install the goat wire for the railing, but I ran out of time. I will do that on Friday. After returning my trailer to the cottage and showering I drove to Tullahoma. First stop was Chick-fil-a and then Lowe’s. I made it home a little after nine. My cough has gotten worse and is making me miserable in the mornings and evenings.

Luke and Daddy day.
This morning I drove home to look after Luke. He and Liz were at the doctor’s when I arrived, but returned shortly and we started playing together. After lunch he didn’t nap so we went for a car ride, during which he fell asleep. He woke up as we were in the Walgreen’s drive through. That ended up taking over thirty minutes. After dinner I drove up to the Mountain. Luke is very excited about the fact that Uncle Matt is coming tonight.
Stairway to heaven.
I slept decently last night and got to the job site a few minutes before seven. The electricians weren’t there, but I got started on the second house’s stairs. After an hour or so I got hungry and went to Piggly Wiggly for some cereal, which I ate at the cottage. Back at the house I made good progress on the steps, despite making a few trips to the lumberyard. It was uncomfortably hot though. This afternoon Liz texted to say that Luke’s school is shutting down until next Monday. So tomorrow morning I will drive home and look after him. I finished all I could do on the stairs and railings a bit after six this evening and returned to the cottage for more cereal. I thought about going for a hike but was pretty tired. I might start reading a new book.

Still coughing.
I didn’t sleep well last night and felt pretty rough this morning. Liz made pancakes again and we went to Home Depot and Kroger. After lunch Luke and I both napped and then we did a video chat with my parents. Our next door neighbor Jerry called and I went to help him move a piece of furniture. Luke and I built Lego towers while Liz prepared dinner. I got a text saying that I was negative for the virus, which was a little disappointing, since I would like to have it and be done, especially since I haven’t been feeling too bad. Luke is getting his bath now and will hopefully sleep at a reasonable time. I am not looking forward to driving to the Mountain tonight.
Coughing, testing, mowing, and more.
I woke up a little before four this morning and couldn’t get back to sleep. Luke got up a couple of hours later and we read books while Liz made pancakes. After eating we went to the farmers market and he rode his tricycle around. We ended up at the little splash pad and he was happy to take off his clothes and play there. After lunch he failed at taking a nap, so he went with Liz for a drive while I took trash to the dump then mowed the yard. I also went to get tested for the virus at CVS and will get my results within a couple of days. I cleaned up the kitchen while waiting for Liz and Luke to return from the playground. We had a nice dinner and Luke did pretty well at bed time.

A third nurse’s shift.
The electricians arrived early this morning and we all got to work. Unfortunately my task was quite boring – screwing down the deck boards on the two rear porches. That took nearly eight hours. After finishing that I started on the front porch stairs for the second house, but didn’t make much progress. I knocked off a little early and showered at the cottage before going to dinner at the dining hall on campus. It was pretty delicious. From there I drove home. Luke was of course asleep and Liz nearly was. Since arriving my cough has really gotten bad.

Sunny and rolling.
I got to the job site a little before seven this morning and one of the electricians was already there. After chatting with him I went to the lumberyard before getting down to work. I finished the railings and stairs and installed the last couple of deck boards on the front porch. I did taker about a two hour break this afternoon to talk on the phone with my friend Alex, who is moving to Mexico next week. I ended the day by screwing down more of the deck boards on the back porch, a task that will go well into tomorrow. It was about 7:40 by the time I left. I stopped at Piggly Wiggly and have just been relaxing at the cottage.

Another half (twelve hour) day.
I picked up some wood at the lumberyard this morning and then went to the job site. I worked on railing and then stairs on the front porch of the first house. It went pretty well and the weather was great. I made a couple more trips to the lumberyard and worked until about seven. I stopped by Piggly Wiggly for some food and am now just relaxing.

Finally making my way back to the Mountain.
Luke was still snotty this morning and so I stayed home with him. We built towers and read books all morning. Liz went to get tested for the virus in Pulaski and we stayed home and ate lunch. He took an hour long nap after making a monster line-up of almost everything in his bedroom. He was in a weird mood this afternoon, maybe because he knew he was going to the doctor’s office. At three Liz took him there and I drove to Monteagle. At the job site I just pulled most of the tape and paper off the houses. It was nice to see the contrast between siding and trim, although I do have plenty of touch up painting to do on both. After getting a little food at Piggly Wiggly I have been reading at the cottage. I also chatted on the phone with Liz for a bit.
