Flooring, dooring, cabineting.
It was another wet, nasty morning and I again struggled to get going. After breakfast and a stop at the supply store I managed to start working. I put down quarter inch plywood in the bathrooms and installed a bit more flooring in the main room. This afternoon my dad came and we installed most of the interior doors. I have to say that they look pretty sharp. We also put up the upper kitchen cabinets. We stopped early, about 5:40 since it was getting dark and would have been a pain to set up all the lights, and they still probably wouldn’t have helped that much. I think we will get a whole lot done tomorrow and am really excited. After showering at the cottage we went and had dinner on campus. It was pretty good. I talked with Liz on the phone after that and now I am just messing around on the computer.
Loving the lovely weather.
Luke woke up pretty early this morning. He was in a good mood though, and ready to play. After breakfast and morning snack we went on a walk at the nature park. Then lunch, nap, and another walk at the nature park. We played with blocks while Liz prepared dinner. Soon I will drive to the Mountain, where it’s supposed to be rainy all week.
Busy day with Luke.
Luke slept great last night and when he woke up Liz made us all breakfast cookies. So that was a great start to the day. After playing a bit we went for a hike at the nature park, which was a lot of fun despite it being a little on the chilly side. Luke did a lot of walking and dragging branches. After stopping at Kroger for gas we went home for lunch. Liz drove up to Nashville to visit a friend and Luke took a two and a half hour nap. I also tried to nap, but was unsuccessful. Once he woke up we read, built a tower with blocks, played with playdough, and ate a snack, not in that order. Once Liz returned he had dinner, bathed, and went to bed, in that order. Now I am just doing some things on the computer.
Unexpected snow.
Well I woke up to some snow this morning. I had no idea it was coming. Not a lot, but enough to make things rather pretty. After doing some stuff around the cottage I went to the Goat Market, filled up my car with gas, hooked up a trailer at the cottage, and headed to Columbia. I went to Harbor Freight first and bought a tarp, then stopped by The Next Door and got the set of double doors that didn’t fit into the Uhaul trailer previously. Then I went home. Luke had just finished up lunch, and so we played a little bit before his nap. I had to go to see the accountant for a while in downtown Columbia, then I went up to Discount Tire in Spring Hill. As a birthday present my parents gave me a new set of tires, and while waiting for those to be installed I walked to Wal-Mart. It was a nice store, but the layout was unfamiliar, so the shopping was a little slow. After my car was ready I drove home. We had guests over this evening, a couple we met at the farmer’s market. We had dinner after Luke went to bed, and stayed up until 10:30 chatting. Quite late for us!
Late start, late finish.
It was supposed to be super cold this morning, and I wasn’t at all motivated to get out of bed and start the day. I didn’t get to the job site until ten. Then my compressor wasn’t working, so I had to get my backup from the storage unit. It was very difficult to maneuver around the house with all the materials in the way, but eventually I got in a groove. I knocked out the ceiling trim and some base trim in the bedrooms and flex room, trimmed out the closets, and finally finished the edges of the vaulted ceiling. I did another stretch of flooring in the main room, and started setting out the cabinets. That was nice to help visualize things. I finally wrapped up around nine and returned to the cottage.
A frustrating, unproductive day.
After breakfast this morning I drove to Shelbyville and picked up my cabinets. Well, most of them anyways. They messed things up and three were missing. It will take three weeks to get them. Oh well, not much to do about it but wait. I drove on to the Mountain and was able to unload the doors and cabinets by myself. That actually went much more smoothly than anticipated. Then I drove down to Kimball to pick up a few things at Lowe’s and O’Reilly, and on to Jasper for some groceries at Ingles. Driving back there were some flurries in the Tracy City area, so I decided to go ahead and write off the day. I stopped at the Mountain Goat Market and chatted with Eric for a while. Then I came back here to the cottage and have been reading and messing around with house designs ever since.
Home a day early.
I got to the house about eight this morning and started putting down more flooring. I manged to finish the bedrooms and the closets and got a bit more done in the living room. Then I installed shelving in the closets. Around 11:30 I hauled trash and cardboard to the dump, then went to the cottage for lunch. I had prepared a dish in the slow cooker this morning. After eating I drove down to Cowan to pick up a Uhaul trailer then drove on to Columbia where I picked up most of the interior doors. The large double door didn’t fit, so I will have to return with my flatbed. I came home and it was great to see Luke. We played a bit before dinner and read a little afterwards. In the morning I’ll go pick up cabinets and return to the mountain. Hopefully it will be a productive day.
Trim.
I wasn’t very motivated this morning, and didn’t get to the house until about 9:30. I moved a bunch of materials around and spent the day trimming out the windows. I feel like they look pretty good. I left about 6:30 and planned on going down to Lowe’s in Kimball, but one of my headlights was out and it was very foggy, so I decided not to. Instead I went to the library parking lot and surfed the internet.
Happy birthday Aunt Lauren!
Lauren and my parents came down around 11:30 to celebrate her birthday. We picked up pizza at Red 7 and brought it back to the house. Luke seemed to really enjoy the festivities and I think everybody else had a nice time as well. We just sort of relaxed this afternoon. I made white bean chili in the slow cooker. In a little bit I will drive up to the Mountain.
Active Saturday.
Luke didn’t wake up too early this morning, and was in a great mood when I went in to get him. Liz’s parents left after breakfast and we went to pick up bread at the farmer’s market. After that we went by Kroger. Then it was lunch time. Then nap time. For Luke, not for me, unfortunately. I went to the dump and Big Box to pick up the last of my flooring. When Luke woke up we went to the park in Spring Hill. Then the Kroger in Spring Hill, because it has stuff that the Columbia one doesn’t. We had dinner together, then I vacuumed while Liz bathed Luke. He went to bed with minimal fussing.
