Getting closer, despite the rain.

I wasn’t really expecting the framers to come today since it looked like rain this morning, but they actually arrived earlier than usual. Before they came I went by the roofing supply place and ordered everything I needed for the roof. The roofers are due to arrive tomorrow. Next I went to Lowe’s to buy the last two windows I needed. I wanted French doors as well, but they didn’t have the ones I was looking for. Once the framers got situated and the roofing materials were delivered I drove down to Pulaski to buy doors. I got two French doors and a 15 panel glass door. The guy told me that they were getting in a truck this afternoon with the other three doors I needed. I drove on to the Pulaski Home Depot for another two doors that I needed. The drive back to the farm was really pretty.

I took the framers out to lunch at Burger King as a little thank you. They seemed to enjoy it, but one of them went back for a second combo meal! The rest of the afternoon was pretty quiet. I did a bit of cleaning and organizing around the site. The burn piles are getting huge and I will need to burn soon. It started storming around five, so the framers and I left. I went back to Lowe’s, because I got the wrong windows this morning. I also bought a new tape measure and some LED light bulbs for the condo. Traffic was pretty bad once I got to Cool Springs. I think there may have been a wreck. Tomorrow will be a busy day.

This evening there was a rainbow visible from our balcony. Also a vivid sunset. Cell phone pictures do neither justice.

Rained out.

I arrived at the farm around 6:15 this morning. Thunderstorms and flash floods were in the forecast, but it was not raining. I cut some grass, cleaned up some lumber, and brought some crushed up concrete blocks into the garage for fill. Laudel, who runs the framing crew, arrived around 7:45. We chatted for about three hours. Around 9:30 he called his guys to see where they were. They told him that they had driven about halfway to Columbia, then turned around because of the rain. They promised to come finish up tomorrow. After Laudel and I finished talking I went to the roofing supply place in Columbia and ordered materials for the roof. The roofers are coming on Thursday. From there I went to the lumberyard and got tape for the windows. Unfortunately I didn’t take any pictures of the house today.

I got back to the condo pretty early – around 12:30. Luke was nursing. He was fairly fussy all afternoon and only took a little nap. We did tummy time with him just a few minutes ago.

Technical difficulties.

I’m dropping a bunch of new posts on here today. About a week’s worth or so. I had quite a backlog built up. My primary computer is my Chromebook and I left the charger for it in Monteagle a couple of weekends ago. My Windows laptop has a malfunctioning clock. One one hand that has been great, since it has allowed me to extend my trial of SketchUp pro well beyond the thirty day period. The problem is that Google’s apps raise a ruckus about the error, and so I am not able to access them. In this context I just need to access Photos. I have a WordPress app on my phone, but it is kind of a pain to use. So this afternoon I reset the clock on my laptop. It was nice to catch up on my posting (I already had the posts written, just needed to add pictures). I will deal with the loss of SketchUp pro. Fortunately I am finished with it in regards to the farm house. Hopefully we are going back to Monteagle this coming weekend and I can get my charger.

E duobus unum.

And two become one. I had tried to keep my “Life Blog” and my “Luke Blog” separate. I actually spent a lot of time and energy trying to do so. After much frustration I finally thought I has succeeded. I won’t get into the technicalities, but the problem was that even though the blogs were separate, the previous/next post listings at the bottom of each post showed posts from both blogs, regardless of which one you were looking at. There seemed to be a couple of solutions, but I failed when attempting to implement them. So I have given up and decided to merge the two. Actually I am about to try to do it. I need to remember what all I did to separate them in the first place.

Saturday cleaning.

The framers didn’t show again today. On Thursday they told me they weren’t coming today. Yesterday they said they were. Must have had quite the fiesta last night. Not sure if they will come Monday or not, as it’s Memorial Day. I spent a few hours cleaning up the job site. It was nice to take a load of trash to the dump. I maxed out one burn pile and started a second. Need to burn, but it has been pretty dry recently. Didn’t take any pictures. Will try to really document things on Monday. Meeting a roofer on Monday. Have already gotten two quotes but felt like they were both a bit high. We need to get serious about finding plumbing and electrical fixtures. I also need to start preparing the wood flooring and shiplap siding from the old house to use in the new one. Lots of work ahead.
