Nothing motivates cleaning up like a visit from the in-laws.
This morning I hauled sheetmetal to the dump and then picked up my finish mower. Actually I went to two dumps, because the first one said I had too much and wouldn’t let me leave it all. The bill for the mower was a bit more than expected, but they completely redid most of it. Liz’s parents are coming tomorrow so I did a lot to get the apartment ready for them, and also organized a bit in the main house. This afternoon I was able to cut a bit of the back field and then we went on a walk along the greenway before the rain arrived.

Stairway to Heaven.
It was a good day. I demolished the shed. I burned the wood framing and loaded the metal onto my trailer. Tomorrow I’ll go to the dump. I’ll also pick up my finish mower from the repair place. I hauled other trash to the dump and did more cleaning up around the house. It is starting to look pretty good. Everything is off the deck now, except for four chairs and a table, which will stay. We got some rain, but it didn’t fall too hard, plus it was warm out, so overall the day was nice. Tomorrow should be good too, and I’m excited about getting some more work done outside.

Getting it done under the sun.
The lovely weather continues. I started the day by beginning to fill in my hole out back with concrete. It really felt good to get a lot of that cleaned up and out of the way. Now there is just a little more to be raked up and removed. My dad came and we went and got the sofa and a few other items from the storage unit and picked up a mattress at Big Box. We then hauled three loads of stuff from the little storage shed at the farm to the storage unit in town. After the third trip we stopped for barbecue at a little food truck. It was pretty delicious and the people running it were fantastic. After eating our fill we returned to the house and put the furniture in place. Then my dad moved some dirt around with the tractor while I hauled trash to the dump and went by the lumberyard to get screws and boards for the garage stairs. I returned and moved the metal storage shed that we had emptied. I was thinking to rip off the metal siding and rebuild it, but it is rather poorly constructed, so I’ll probably just trash it. After Luke woke up from his nap Liz and I took him on a little walk around the property and then I worked on the garage steps. It was a good day, and tomorrow should be too.

A door and more.
The garage door was installed today. It looks fantastic and the guy was great to deal with. I started on the garage steps but had to look after Luke this afternoon. I also expanded the hole that I started digging yesterday. Tomorrow should be a good day. My dad is coming down to help out. The nice weather is due to continue.

Burned, hauled, dug, graded, built, organized, paid, cleaned, shopped.
Checked a lot of things off the list today. The highlight was digging a hole to put some concrete chunks in. I normally wouldn’t go this route, but I have been unable to find a place to dump it. I don’t know that the current hole will hold as much as I would like, so I might have to expand it a bit.

Mega fun on a Sunday afternoon.
Today our friends Tim and Emilie, along with their three kids, came for a visit. It was a wonderful time. We had a new recipe of turkey and lentil chili for lunch, which was delicious. The kids got to ride around on the tractor and add to the bonfire. They had a wonderful time. After I guests left and Luke made it clear that he didn’t want to take an afternoon nap, we went for a walk on the greenway in town, along the river. The weather was lovely and it was so nice to be out. Dinner was pasta, fueling up for a busy week.

Spring has sprung.
The weather here is glorious at the moment. Sunny with a slight breeze. A light jacket comes in handy unless exerting oneself. Fortunately for me the tractor did most of the exerting. We didn’t have much time, but did manage to add considerably to the burn pile. I hope to burn tomorrow. There shouldn’t be much wind then. I also managed to finally get rid of the old HVAC unit that had been in the backyard since we tore down the house. I ran some other errands as well. This afternoon I spent watching Luke. We had fun playing together. After Liz got done working we went on a nice walk around the property.

Little Man struggling with another tooth.
He is doing well overall though. I’ll try to write more tomorrow.
