Bread, grandparents, Uncle Matt.

Luke slept in this morning and it was great. He was in a good mood all day. This morning we went to the farmer’s market to get some bread. We ended up talking to the bakers for quite a while before returning home to meet my parents. They hung out with us for a while, and played with Luke a lot. I think he was happy to see them. He had a good nap and we read a lot while Liz went to town. I made chili in the slow cooker using some pumpkin that Liz’s parents brought down. This evening Liz’s younger brother and his girlfriend came to stay with us on their way to New Orleans. They will leave in the morning.

Deck day 3, more dirt.

Another early start to the work day. Not as cold this morning. I quickly put down all the deck boards that I could before the blocking needed to be installed. Once finished with that I focused on cleaning up the site in anticipation of Daniel coming to grade. I loaded a bunch of scrap wood in the trailer and stacked the good wood. Also the electricians came and started on the wiring. That felt good. Once Kent came we worked on the blocking together, then Daniel came and we installed the drain pipes and he moved a lot of dirt quickly. After he left we finished the blocking and installed a few more deck boards. We could have finished but I decided to come home to have dinner with Liz and Luke. It was wonderful to see and read to him before he went to bed. Now I am in bed on the computer. My whole body aches. My hands are raw and my fingers split. But it was a good week and I am happy. It will be a busy weekend preparing for Christmas and New Year’s.

Projects, playground, projects.

It was another great day. We hung Hatch Show prints in Liz’s office, set up her keyboard, and hung coat racks in the mud room. Things are really starting to come together. This afternoon we took advantage of the lovely weather and went to the playground in Spring Hill. Luke had a great time and was able to interact with a couple of other kids. Back at the house we played some more and read two new books that he got from Liz’s parents yesterday. I wanted to cook today but was missing some of the ingredients I needed. So we had leftovers. I’ll stay here tonight then head up the Mountain in the morning. It is supposed to storm all day tomorrow.

Pretty productive Saturday.

Luke slept until nearly six this morning, which was quite nice. Then we hit the ground running! I put the legs on Liz’s reworked shelves and hung a toilet paper holder in Luke’s bathroom. I went to Home Depot and bought a new wireless router system, along with some other things. The router is now installed, but when the Spectrum guy came out to set up our internet he said that he wasn’t equipped to run the cable to our house. So we’ll have to wait on that. Luke had a good day with a nice nap and lots of playing. This afternoon we went next door to see our neighbors and take them some Michigan apples. Tonight I hope to watch some episodes of Hawaii Five-0.

Rain, Goat Market, errands, some assembly required.

It was a wet and nasty morning. I went by the job site briefly, then stopped by the Mountain Goat Market for breakfast and to use the internet. After that I stopped by the cottage, packed, and hit the road. My first stop was Home Depot in Winchester, then Harbor Freight in Tullahoma, then Spectrum in Columbia. I also went to Kroger and CVS in Columbia. It was great to see Luke, and we read books for a while. Liz finished work and took the cat to the vet while I fed Luke dinner. While she bathed him I assembled some chairs she had bought from Wal-Mart and IKEA. Lots more projects on tap for the weekend.
